While identity theft is a valid concern, a recent study by the Federal Trade Commission shows that less than 4% of identity theft is a result of the mail that shows up in your mailbox. Even so, you should always be sure to shred and recycle any documents that contain financial data and other personal information if you don't need to keep them for your records.
